SHL - Team Swallow wins A League Championship!
Team Swallow took home the Gold medal and a 1st place victory in the 2009 Spring Session of the Springfield Hockey League finals with a win over team Bob Smith 7-4. At one time being down 5-0 the seasoned team Bob Smith veterans seemed to just give up as team Swallow was outplaying them to every puck. After a shaky season, team Swallow goaltending was at an all time high with Adam Schmitz playing...
NHL Thoughts
Hello frozen rubber disk fans. We are entering the third week of the playoffs and have eliminated only 3 of the 16 who have made it to the playoffs. The Blues were the first to get to the summer vacation and actually only missed a week of golf that players in Phoenix, Toronto and Florida have already enjoyed. They played with heart and spirit but unfortunately ran into the annual goaltending buzz...

DropIn Success!
Last night’s dropIn was a major success, almost too major. 4 goalies attended and over 20 players were present. The teams were very evenly matched and I would say that was a perfect dropIn. Keep checking the site and if you are on Twitter make sure to follow @dropindanglers.com for dropIn updates.

JD dissapointing loss to Team Bob Smith 12-8
In a hard fought, physical game Team Bob Smith out muscled and out skilled a weaker Jack Daniel’s team. Goaltender Ryan Mueller did his best to stop the Team Bob Smith offense, but after being tied late in the 3rd period Team JD could not hold on. Brothers Bob and Paul Saitta again had an amazing night, counting for 7 of the 8 goals team JD had. Captain Brian Moseley had this to say after...

Team Catalystix Clinches Playoff Berth
Team Catalystix clinched a playoff berth by beating Team Bennett in an exciting and hard fought game late Sunday night. After scoring 2 goals in the first minute of the game, Team Catalystix held the lead throughout the game despite best efforts by Bennett goaltender Shawn Elder, who played excellent in the second and third periods.
On the other side of the ice goalie Zach Kral put on a show by...

Jack Daniels posts a 2 game win streak heading...
With last nights victory over Finnegans Wake, team Jack Daniels is looking hot headed into the playoffs. After being down 4-1 at the end of the first, brother duo Bob and Paul Saitta refused to quit. Scoring a furry of goals in the second period team JD took the lead with a goal by Matt Burger, backdoor. Matt Burger had this to say:
“The first period was rough for us, we even scored a goal...

A League Cancelled
Apparently one of the compressors at the ice rink broke, causing the ice to melt last night. Games have been rescheduled, dates and times are not available on the MediaCom Ice park website. You should call the rink to find out what time your games are.
C League is still on for Tuesday night.

Get the skates out! The two worst teams in the NHL West are both playoff bound! The virginal Blue Jackets and the former playoff record holder StL Blues are heading to the post season.
There is more in common than just a moniker of Blue. Their goalies are the Free Mason’s of hockey earning close to minimum for maximum effort. Blues advanced all the way up to 6th and dodged the first round...

A League - Jack Daniels v Bob Smith
After being down 2-1 at the end of the period, a rejuvenated Jack Daniels team dug in their heels and played with purpose. Thanks to the Saitta brothers amazing rally in the 2nd period scoring 4 unanswered goals, team JD took the lead and never looked back.
Stand in JD goaltender Ryan Mueller (also goaltender for team Finnegans) made it look easy as he shut down Team Bob Smith All-Star brothers,...

Holmes v Catalystix - 6p
The highlight to this game was the multi goal game scored by captain Mike LaBroad. Through battling in front of the net, Mike scored 2 goals, including the game tie-ing goal. The game went to a shootout where Catalystix won. Rick Morsovillo scored in the shootout to win the game.
Lloyd-Smith v Adcock - 7:30p
I reffed this game and it was the battle of goaltending....

THE BLACK AND WHITE ADVISIOR (Refs Corner)
The puck is shot out of play…
Where is the ensuing faceoff held?
This is a common question I get in Mens League. For example sake, say the Blues are playing the Blackhawks, and Brad Boyes is in the offensive zone and takes a shot which hits the crossbar and deflects out of play. Where is the faceoff?
The faceoff comes out of the zone and is conducted at the nearest neutral zone...

THE BLACK AND WHITE ADVISIOR (Refs Corner)
One thing I see Mens Leaguers do which really annoys me is getting on the ice too early. I think this comes from 2 things:
Players are too excited to get on the ice and not waste thier precise ice time.
Players do not fully understand why the ice needs to ‘settle’.
When the Zam presses a new sheet of ice what happens? The machine scrapes the top layer of shaved ice off of the...

DropIn Thursday April 2nd, 2009
The dropIn last night was dissapointing. Only one goalie (Taco) and a slew of other talented players. The game was well distributed, talent wise after some jersey switching but it was hindered by only one goalie in net. Kyle Feldman was back after a long absence from the game. Jordan Adams also returened to the rink after a one game suspension following an incident with the Zamboni driver during...
